Social housing in Cornellà and a residence in Germany, award-winners
Construmat 2024 awards prizes to the most sustainable projects in the sector
Fira de Barcelona’s construction show today presented the Construmat 2024 Awards to the sector’s projects that have stood out for their commitment to innovation and sustainability. The prestigious recognitions, curated by the Mies van der Rohe Foundation, have awarded first prize to the project for 85 social dwellings built from wood in Cornellà (Barcelona), while the Collegium Accademicum student residence of Heilderberg in Germany has won the Public Prize.
At a ceremony held during the 23rd edition of Construmat, which is taking place until tomorrow at the Gran Via venue of Fira de Barcelona, the prize has been awarded to the Peris+Toral arquitectes practice for its five-storey timber-structured building with 85 dwellings organised around a communal courtyard that acts as a small square for the neighbours.
Built on the site formerly occupied by the emblematic Pisa cinema of Cornellà de Llobregat, the building designed by was commissioned by the Metropolitan Institute for Land Development and Asset Management (IMPSOL) of the Metropolitan Area of Barcelona and built by the construction company Vías y Construcciones, optimising to the utmost the laminated wood of the EGOIN Wood Group.
The public prize went to the Collegium Accademicum student residence in the German town of Heidelberg. The project by Drexler Guinand Jauslin Architects is a wooden construction with a large 140 kWh photovoltaic installation on the roof, which makes it stand out for its high potential for recycling and CO2 savings.
Two honourable mentions were also awarded. The first went to the Las Tejedoras community production centre in Guayaquil (Ecuador), while the second went to Le Magasin Eléctrique in Arles (France).
The 23rd edition of Construmat brings together more than 310 companies and 600 brands from the construction ecosystem, placing the emphasis on sustainable and industrialised construction and establishing itself as the most representative and transversal event of the sector in Spain.
